BOZEMAN — The Bozeman Public Library closed its doors in March, even before the Governor’s stay at home directive.

Now they’re beginning the reopening process, slowly making their way back to normal.

“With our high daily attendance in the library of 1,000 people or more, it was impossible to guarantee social distancing. So for the safety of the public and the safety of our staff, we closed,” said Susan Gregory, Director of the Bozeman Public Library.

That was almost exactly two months ago. And in that time, patrons have been limited to online materials.

“We’ve been able to provide a great variety of e-resources that provide music, movies, documentaries and e-books that people can access from their own home without having to leave,” said Gegory.

But things are moving forward. While doors will remain closed, you can get curb-side books starting Monday.

“So basically what you have here is our patrons can place a hold on our online catalog bozemanlibrary.org or they can give us a call and we’ll place the hold on them,” said Brittany Dolezal who works in circulations at the Bozeman Public Library.

From there, books go through a thorough cleaning and packaging process - they’re wiped down cover to cover and placed into brown bags with discrete labeling to protect privacy.

“What happens is the patron will call us on a cell phone number when they’re up front and then we’ll have a runner. And that employee will go and bring the book out to a table.”

This allows for a zero contact pickup.

During this time, patrons are limited to 5 items per card.

“This has been difficult for everyone to have the library closed,” said Gregory.

“ People have been really thoughtful and understanding, and I just want people to know that we’re working as quickly as possible to get things to the point where you can come back.”

At this point, books are being returned on Fridays between 9am - 4pm.

And just as a reminder, the Bozeman Public Library no longer charges fees for late materials.
