The Bamboo Garden in Bozeman is a family operated restaurant that was looking for a way to spread the joy on Mother’s Day. Little did they know, those free lunches were giving so much more to people than they expected.

“I’m single and alone and I didn’t have any special plans for Mother’s Day, so this was just a huge blessing in my life to come to a cafe and eat with this family,” said Lindie Gibson who was visiting Bozeman from Livingston. “I feel like I know them.”

Mother, father and son along with a handful of volunteers spent the day preparing and delivering free lunches for anybody who wanted them.

“We’ve been doing fairly okay as a restaurant and kind of wanted to mostly just give back to the community and be thankful for what we have and kinda bring everybody together,” said Norman Tang who works with his parents at the family owned restaurant.

Hundreds of lunches were given away to raise spirits during the pandemic, and of course to say Happy Mother’s Day.

“Usually Mother’s Day for the restaurant is a lot more busy than other days. So I would like to work that day too because I see a lot of mothers coming up,” said Lisa Tang who owns the restaurant with her husband John.

The Bamboo Garden says they want to continue giving, and plan on donating meals to Bozeman’s Fork & Spoon in the future.

“We’re all in here together. So if we’re all in it together, let’s help each other out whenever we can,” said Norman Tang.

And as for the diners that came in on Mother’s Day, they’re thankful for the generosity.

“They’re a special family to do something like this, free and on Mother’s Day. And it’s a perfect match for somebody who’s a mother and alone. It just couldn’t get any better than this,” said Gibson.

Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse in Bozeman will be giving away lunch on Monday from noon until 1:30pm.
