Members of the Sweet Grass County Search and Rescue and Stillwater County Search Rescue teams rescued a person who had fell while climbing/rappelling near the Sioux Charlie Trail near Nye on Saturday.
According to a social media post, a mutual aid request sent responders from Stillwater County Search and Rescue, Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office, Absarokee Fire and EMS, Nye Fire, and Sweet Grass County Search and Rescue joined together to rescue the individual. A rescue helicopter from Two Bear Air was also dispatched, but was unable to perform a hoist rescue or land near the scene due to high wind gusts.
The multi agency rescue team was able to move the individual to safety by ground over difficult terrain.
Montanans are discouraged from outdoor recreation that has a higher risk of injury, so that local first responders can focus their attention on COVID-19 related emergencies.
