If you're heading outside to get some fresh air, tick season is at an all-time high.

With so many people wanting to recreate outside, Dillon Tabish with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks reminds people to be cautious of ticks.

He told MTN that ticks thrive in cooler, wetter weather and sit in tall grass and on branches until someone brushes by.

Unfortunately, Tabish says, ticks can cause serious health issues from Lyme disease to Colorado tick fever.

He has some suggestions for people who are recreating outdoors.

"Make sure to tuck your pant legs into your socks so the ticks aren't able to crawl up into the pant legs onto your leg," said Tabish. "If you wear light-colored clothing that's going to allow you to see ticks crawling on your shirt and get up onto your shirt or neck. And also just constantly doing body checks."

Tabish said that you can perform these body checks yourself by feeling around for a small bump.

He also suggests wearing a deet-based repellent which discourages ticks from attaching to your skin.
