The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office announced they will lift evacuation orders near Craig at 8 p.m. Saturday, as firefighters continue to battle a wildfire in the area.
As of Saturday morning, the Eagle Canyon Fire had burned about 60 acres. Montana DNRC reports the fire saw minimal growth overnight, and no structures have been burned.
The fire is burning in steep, rocky terrain in the Eagle Canyon and Stickney Creek areas, with homes throughout. DNRC said hand crews are building fire lines, and that air assets have also provided important assistance.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office evacuated about 25 to 30 homes in the area of Eagle Canyon Road, July Road, Lil' Valley Road, Werner Drive, North Fork of Beaver Slide Road, Spring Drive and Cold Water Drive. Sheriff Leo Dutton said in a statement Saturday that, after consulting with Dearborn and Wolf Creek-Craig Fire Departments, he would lift those evacuations and remove all roadblocks at 8 p.m.
Dutton said the fire is still under investigation, but authorities know it was human-caused.
