GALLATIN COUNTY — The Montana Department of Transportation is planning to install low-noise centerline rumble strips on two-lane roadways in western Montana this fall.
And you may be wondering when will MDT begin that project in Bozeman—but it’s already been done.
MDT says Bozeman served as a catalyst back in 2015 for the low-noise centerline rumble strips. The department installed the strips on various roadways in Gallatin County.
The low-noise feature still alerts motorists within the vehicle when they’re driving on the edge of their lanes into oncoming traffic, but it doesn’t alarm neighboring residents in housing areas nearby unlike traditional rumble strips.
“Absolutely. They save lives, and that’s why each of the districts within the state of Montana have the centerline rumble strip project is because they’re a proven counter measure to those types of accidents,” said William C. Fogarty, the district adminatrator for MDT.
Fogarty says the rumble strips have prevented head-on collisions by about 50 percent.
