LIVINGSTON — The need for social interaction and companionship is at an all time high with the pandemic.

And though they can’t talk, the Stafford Animal Shelter in Livingston says pets have provided the perfect solution for many people who have been feeling isolated.

In fact, the shelter says since the pandemic started people have been adopting pets more now than ever, which has made the shelter busier than ever.

“Adopters really stepped up to the plate and came through to help us clear our shelter," said Alicia Davis of the Stafford Animal Shelter. "Our adoption is higher than ever, but our length of stay is lower than ever. So, the animals are getting out of the shelter as fast as they’re coming in,” explained Alicia Davis, the director of operations and outreach at the shelter.

The average stay for cats at the shelter was 43 days and now is 6 days and for dogs, it was 12 days. Now it is two.

There are currently pets available for adoption. For more information, visit here.
