UPDATED: 6/12/2020 - 1:06 PM - The Bozeman Police Department just released this statement: "In regards to yesterday’s sexual assault media release, the suspect has been identified. Thank you for your assistance."

The Bozeman Police Department is investigating a reported physical and sexual assault that happened early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, on June 9 between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. a woman contacted the Bozeman Police Department to report a male acquaintance, “Joe” or possibly “Joey” (unknown last name), had physically and sexually assaulted her.

The woman indicated the suspect fled the area, on foot, in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as an approximately 25-35-year-old Caucasian male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with short hair and a red-colored beard. The suspect was wearing a blue hoodie, tan pants, and a colorful hat. The suspect is depicted in the attached photograph provided by the Bozeman Police Department.

Law enforcement said this assault appears to be an isolated incident as the Bozeman Police Department has not recently received any similar reports of this nature. This incident is currently under investigation by the Bozeman Police Department, Detective Division. Anyone who has information on the identity of the male subject, or who may have witnessed the assault, is encouraged to contact Detective Tommie Franscioni at 406-582- 2007, Crimestoppers at 406-586-1131 or email policetips@bozeman.net.

The Bozeman Police Department encourages all citizens to walk or travel in groups, avoid distractions that decrease your awareness level (i.e. talking on a cell phone or wearing headphones) and to immediately report all suspicious activity to 911.

Persons with information that help solve this crime may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.
