Body recovered from river in Great Falls has been identified

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office has identified Daniel Stump as the man who was found dead in the Missouri River on Saturday.

Stump, 42, was from Great Falls, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy was performed on Monday. The cause and manner of his death are still being investigated.

The body was found on Saturday. The Great Falls Police Department was notified at about 10:15 a.m. that a body had been seen in the river.

Officers recovered the body along River Drive just south of Central Avenue, across from the Electric City Water Park.

Great Falls police used their drone to conduct aerial surveillance during the recovery effort.

The body was recovered just after noon, according to the police.

Responding agencies included Great Falls Police Department, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, and Great Falls Fire Rescue.

No other details have been released at this point.
