BILLINGS, Mont. – The sport of skateboarding combines art and athleticism, and a new event brought those athletes together in Billings on Saturday.

The Downtown Skate Park was the venue for the very first Fall Skate Fest.

The skate community becomes a family and pushes each other to be more creative, according to Caleb Stauffer, who organized the event.

“I correlate artists and art and graffiti and drawing and painting with skateboarding so much because a lot of them have the same talents,” Stauffer said. “And so a lot of fun that way.”

The Pursuit Skate Shop, owned by Stauffer, hosted Skate Fest.

Stauffer said the name Pursuit is intended to inspire skateboarders.

“A lot of people come from broken homes and we know what that’s like and we just want to love people,” Stauffer said. “Ultimately have Christ love them but then ultimately promote them into their dreams and their passions. That’s kind of where the Pursuit came from is, we’re going to help you pursue the things that are most important to you.”

Stauffer said Fall Skate Fest may become an annual event.
