Montana has violent and property crime rates that exceed the nation’s average by quite a bit. In fact, as a state, Montana has some of the highest occurrences of property crime per capita, according to a recent study.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security (NCHSS) recently released a study that it says reveals the safest cities in the United States.

The study was completed primarily to highlight the cities that have had the least amount of violent and non-violent crimes per population, according to a press release, while also bringing awareness to the cities that are more likely to have crime per capita.

The findings were achieved by examining data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting tool and combining it with our internal population research, the group states.

Additionally, while the study is replete with cities and data, the NCHSS has discarded two segments from the study: cities with a population under 10,000, and cities that failed to submit complete crime reports to the FBI.

According to the study, the safest areas in Montana are:

  1. Kalispell
  2. Bozeman
  3. Helena
  4. Great Falls
  5. Missoula
