KALISPELL – During the government shutdown, rangers at the Seeley Lake Ranger District noticed someone had spray-painted foul language all over the ranger district and stop sign.

Thomas Sorkness of Kalispell saw the destruction on a post on Facebook and instantly knew he wanted to help.

Sorkness is the owner of Professional Paint and Finish in Kalispell.

It took Sorkness five hours to remove and paint over the graffiti and he didn’t get paid a single dollar. Both Sorkness and the rangers chipped in and supplied paint and stain for the building.

“I just didn’t think that the ranger station should have to pay for something that wasn’t their fault to begin with,” Sorkness said. “So, I just wanted to donate my time to correct a wrong, I should say.”

Sorkness has already promised to return to the Ranger District in the spring to put a fresh layer of stain on the building.
