HELENA – Helena Public Schools has been given a $2,500 donation to put towards delinquent meal accounts.

According to a post on the school district website, a local politician – who wishes to remain anonymous – made the donation.

State law requires political candidates to zero out their accounts following a race, either returning the money to donors or donating them elsewhere.

The anonymous donor asked that the $2,500 be applied to unpaid school meal accounts across Helena.

The school district says the donation is timely given this week marks ‘Fight Against Childhood Hunger’ week nationwide.

It’s estimated that 1 in 6 school age children in Montana does not get enough to eat each day.
