Tax deadline passed for farmers and fishermen

The final quarterly payment for taxes for farmers and fishermen has passed.

Normally, self-employed people have until January 15 to pay taxes for the previous year, but farmers and fishermen had until March 2nd.

Tax analyst Justin Harring explained why these two groups had the extra time.

“It’s not financially feasible for them to pay on the quarterly schedule, so it’s easy for them to get behind. So, this gives them that opportunity to have a little bit of flexibility to pay those estimated payments a little bit later than everybody else and be ready for the April 15th deadline," he said.

Those who pay after the deadline are liable for penalties.
