GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – There’s some good news for folks planning to visit the west side of Glacier National Park.
There will soon be limited visitor access on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road which is closed due to the nearby Howe Ridge Fire.
After consulting with fire managers, the park will offer limited shuttle and tour access from the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road beginning Sept. 7.
The road was originally closed for public safety on August 12 between the foot of Lake McDonald (near Apgar) and Logan Pass.
Visitors will be required to use shuttle or tour services to travel through the closed area in order to provide visitor safety and firefighter access in the area.
Shuttles will not stop between Apgar and Logan Pass and will run on a limited schedule until further notice.
Visitors will be able to ride the park shuttle system with a free park shuttle pass beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day at the Apgar Visitor Center Shuttle Stop.
The passes will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Shuttles will depart every 30 minutes with the last shuttle departing at 1:30 p.m.
The last returning shuttle from Logan Pass will depart at 4 p.m.
Concessioner-operated Sun Tours and Red Bus Tours will also operate in the closure area.
