BLM logging project aims to reduce wildfires

Posted

BOZEMAN, Mont. – A logging project underway in the foothills of the Little Belt Mountains aims to remove overly dense forest impacted by disease according to the Bureau of Land Management.

BLM says Mountain Pine Beetle and Spruce Bud Worm are killing trees in the area. Using specialized equipment crews are thinning out the forest but not taking down all the trees.

By removing the downed trees the BLM says wildfire dangers can be reduced. About 8,000 tons of timber have been identified for removal according to the BLM.
