BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana is a place with a lot of hunting and plenty of traveling.
When heading to the airport with your hunting gear, certain items can and cannot travel with you.
Knives, ammunition, guns and various other weapons are never allowed in carry-ons but are allowed in your checked luggage. Firearms must be locked and stored in your checked bag.
Bear spray, a popular item for Montanans, is never allowed in your carry-on bag or checked luggage.
According to TSA Spokeswoman and Public Affairs Manager Lorie Dankers, “[Bear spray] is an irritant and it contains chemicals that if they were to get into the air system of the aircraft, they would possibly harm the passengers on the plane or the crew. They would also be detrimental to the baggage handler or anyone who works around the aircraft.”
If you’re unsure about something you’re traveling with, it’s best to visit the TSA website where everything allowed and not allowed is listed.
