BIG SKY, Mont. – Big Sky Resort was able to open up the hill this Thanksgiving due to the amount of snow already fallen.
More than 780 acres of terrain were open to the public as the snow continued to come down on Thursday.
The hill could be accessed through several chairlifts including the Swift Current, Explorer, Powder Seeker and Challenger. Skiers and snowboarders got to enjoy more than 70 inches of snow and Big Sky said in a press release it was “the best Opening Day conditions in many years”.
Public Relations Manager Stacie Mesuda said she had a blast skiing yesterday and she expects this to be a record-breaking year for the number of people who visit the resort due to the installation of the new 8-person Ramcharger.
“Yesterday there were a lot of ‘whoo–hoos’ and screaming from the chairlift because people were super excited,” said Mesuda. “We had a powder day yesterday so the snow was quite high.”
The conditions will likely change on a daily basis and open chairlifts will depend on the amount of snow.
