BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Gallatin Local Water Quality District has partnered with the U.S. Geological Survey to install a CrowdHydrology gauge in a Bozeman creek.
The gauge is located on Bridger Creek, upstream from the pedestrian bridge north of Creekwood Drive.
A CrowdHydrology gauge is a water level gauge with instructions for pedestrians to take and report the water level readings. These are found across the country, though it’s something special to have it here in Bozeman.
“It’s the first CrowdHydrology site in Montana, and I think it was a logical partnership for our office. The Water Quality District’s mission is to preserve, protect and improve water quality within the district, and one of the best ways to do that is to just help citizens become aware of the water resources flowing right through their backyards,“ said Water Quality Tech Specialist Torie Haraldson.
Pedestrians who take water level readings are able to share them by text message. For more information on how to do that, or to view the data already collected, click here.
