BOZEMAN – Just as some cold rains struck the Bridger Mountains Saturday, the Gallatin County 911 Center got a call for help from a runner on the Bridger Ridge Trail.

Dispatchers were able to use cell phone data to determine the 45-year-old runner’s location. He told 911 that he was from Atlanta and had started to run the ridge at the Fairy Lake Trailhead. He said he was wearing shorts and did not have a raincoat with him.

Search and Rescue members rushed to the scene and battled what the sheriff’s office calls torrential downpours to reach the runner. He was given warm clothing and was able to hike out on his own, guided by SAR team members.

Once back to the trailhead the runner told the Deputy that “The professionalism and kindness of this team is amazing.  They encouraged me and really made me laugh on the way out.”  He had taken an Uber to the trailhead so a Deputy gave him a ride back to Bozeman.
