WEST YELLOWSTONE — A man was rescued Sunday night after crashing his snowmobile into a tree near West Yellowstone.

According to a press release, on Sunday at 9:20 p.m. West Yellowstone Police Department Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a single snowmobile crash 5 miles north of West Yellowstone near the Madison Arm of Hebgen Lake. The injured snowmobiler, a 43-year-old man, had suffered a possible broken shoulder and punctured lung when the snowmobile he was riding left the trail and struck a tree.

Volunteers from the Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue in West Yellowstone responded to assist with the rescue. Rescuers located the snowmobiler, loaded him into a specialized litter, and transported him to a waiting Hebgen Basin Rural Fire District ambulance. The man was then transported to the Big Sky Medical Center for further evaluation.
