BILLINGS – A Republican group of U.S. senators, including Montana’s Steve Daines and Mike Enzi and John Barrasso of Wyoming, are backing a bill to end the government shutdown.

The “End Government Shutdowns Act” would prevent future shutdowns by creating an automatic, continuing resolution for a regular appropriations bill to keep the government open while budget negotiations continue to meet spending deadlines, according to sponsors.

Montana’s other senator, Democrat Jon Tester, told MTN News he supports the bill and has supported similar measures in the past.

The partial government shutdown hit day 20 Friday, the same day about 800,000 federal workers missed their first paycheck.
