U-Haul pursuit driver faces charges

ANACONDA — A man involved in a long-distance pursuitin a rented moving truck Wednesday morning that started in Gallatin County ended near Anaconda was charged Thursday with several crimes.

Michael Sharpton, 56, of Pontiac, Mich., is accused of leading law enforcement on a chase in a U-Haul truck on Interstate 90 that started near Three Forks, before finally being captured west of Anaconda, according to Anaconda Police Chief Tim Barkell. Sharpton was charged in Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Justice Court Thursday morning with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, possession of dangerous drugs, driving without a valid driver’s license, and fleeing and eluding police.

He remains jailed in Anaconda.
