Imogean Puckett Kessler passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 28, 2018.  She lived a long and healthy 97 years.  She was born in Bozeman, MT in 1921 to parents John Mathis Puckett and Myrtle Mitchell Puckett.  Jean had six siblings and was raised on the family farm near Harper Puckett Road in Bozeman.  She attended Monforton School, where she met her husband, Paul, and Gallatin County High School.  After graduating from high school, she married Paul Kessler in August 1941.  While married to Paul she had many different jobs.  She worked at Richardson’s Candy Store in downtown Bozeman, and after Paul and his brothers opened Kessler Dairy she also helped there doing whatever they needed her to do. She also worked at The Gift House and Lynette’s Fashions in downtown Bozeman until she and Paul moved to Townsend, MT in 1996. They resided in Townsend until they moved to Billings, MT in 2011 to be near family.

Throughout her life Jean enjoyed many things.  Along with raising her children, she was always willing to help her sisters working in their gardens or on the farm and working at Kessler Dairy.  She and Paul enjoyed many fun outings boating and fishing with their children, grandchildren, and friends at Hebgen Lake, Ennis Lake, Hyalite Lake, and Canyon Ferry Lake.  They spent many years traveling with the Good Sams Club in their RV and met many special friends through their travels.  She was always active, whether walking to work in downtown Bozeman or going to aerobics classes at Montana State University.  Jean was an avid card player, enjoying many games of Pinochle and Shanghi with friends and family.

Jean is preceded in death by her siblings, Helen (Hennie) Kent, Mildred (Meme) Pasha, Raymond Puckett, Max Puckett, Ruth Watt, and Cecil Lewis; her husband of 74 years, Paul; and two infant children, John Conrad Kessler and Donna Jean Kessler.  She is survived by her three children, Doug (Kim) Kessler, Sharon Richards, and Sandy Saunders; grandchildren, Brook (Rich) Haag, Bryce Saunders, Sam (Stephanie) Saunders, Gina Kessler, John Kessler, and Amy Nelson; seven great-grandchildren, Allie Haag, Steven Saunders, Jarred Saunders, Trent Saunders, Aidan Kessler, Miles Kessler, and Hannah Adams; and one great-great-grandchild, Bentley Saunders.  She is also survived by her special friend and sister-in-law, Lillian Kessler, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries in Billings where Jean and Paul spent their last years.  There are no services planned at this time.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com
