Herbert Nile Eddy, Jr. (Nuc), 87, formerly of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2018.  Herb resided at Parkhaven Assisted Living in Manhattan, MT at the time.

Herbert Nile Eddy, Jr., was born on November 10, 1931 at his family home in Rochester, NY to Herbert Nile Eddy, Sr., and Irene Eddy (nee Maher).

Herb had a wonderful childhood and spent his summers on his uncles’ farm.  He always considered himself a farm boy and loved learning how to do things with his hands.  Herb was active in Boy and Cub Scouting and became a certified Skin and Scuba Diving Instructor.  He loved Western Square Dancing and playing chess.

Herb attended school in Rochester, NY, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1950.  He later went on to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in 1953, attended classes at the University of New Haven, and graduated from The Electronic Computer Programming Institute in 1965.

In 1956, Herb moved to Stratford to work in the Sikorsky Aircraft Division as a Prototype Fabricator Assembler and Senior Computer Programmer.  He worked there until he took a job at Bridgeport Hospital as a Financial Systems IT Manager in 1969.  Herb worked for Bridgeport Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1995.

In 1965, Herb met the love of his life, Helen Ann Dore, at Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford.  On July 23, 1966, Herb and Helen were wed at the St. Ann Church in Black Rock, CT.  They welcomed their son, Michael John Eddy, on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1969.  Herb and Helen loved the outdoors and spent many summers with Michael camping, boating, water skiing, and canoeing.

In 2016, Herb and Helen moved to Manhattan, MT to be closer to their son and his family.  They enjoyed being near their son, Michael, their daughter-in-law, Katie, and beloved granddaughter, Adrienne.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Irene; infant son, David Nile Eddy; sisters, Virginia Tomkiewicz and Mariel Lyon; and brother-in-law, William Tomkiewicz, Sr.

Herb is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen Eddy of Belgrade, MT; son, Michael Eddy (Katie McGee) of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter, Adrienne Hall (Alise Glenn) of Bozeman; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dotti Dori of Brookfield, CT; sister-in-law, Diane Clark of New London, CT; and brother-in-law, George Lyon of Naples, FL.  He is also survived by numerous cherished nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to Herb as ‘Nuc’, and many special life-long friends.

Herb was an amazing father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by many.  The family would like to say a special thank you to everyone at Parkhaven Assisted Living and Compassus Hospice for all the love and care given to Herb during his time there.

The following is a poem Herb enjoyed: (author unknown)

            Beyond Life’s Dim Horizon

            Is a Happy Peaceful Land

Where Travelers are Welcomed

            By a Loving Outreached Hand

And Every Weary Traveler

            Finds a Wonderful New Life

That’s Free from Every Heartache

            And Every Care and Strife

For Here He Meets the Master

And His Heart is Full with Peace

Beyond Life’s Dim Horizon

Where His Joys Will Never Cease
