Louise D. Bates, 76, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019.  She was a loving, cherished wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She was born March 15, 1942, to Ralph and Ida Arnold in Bozeman, MT.

Louise attended school in Manhattan, MT where she cheered for the games of the Tigers.  She especially enjoyed cheering for a certain center on the basketball team, Virgil Bates, who she later married 57 years ago.

Mom was the best cook; her specialty was her amazing fried chicken.  A meticulous homemaker, a child of God.  She also drove a school bus for Manhattan for 28 years.

A true highlight the last couple of years was her Golden Doodle dog, Mo.

The legacy of her love will go on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.  “Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow but remember me in every tomorrow.  Remember the joy, the smiles.  I’ve only gone to rest a little while.  Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief.  So dry your eyes and remember me not as I am now but as I used to be.  Because I will remember you all and look on with a smile.  Understand in your hearts I have only gone to rest a little while.”

Thank you to Dr. Bethel and Dr. Hoge, Becca, and the wonderful nursing staff at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

She leaves behind the love of her life, Virgil Bates.  They had three children, Debbie (Monty) Myhre, Renae (Lorenzo) Pastorino, and Dan (Amber) Bates; grandchildren, Justin (Kristy), Valerie (Doug), Tyler (Carly), Arica (Tanner), Jeremy, Isabella, Avery, and Trista; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Hattie, Ellie, Jentz, Jasper, Ava, Aunika, Wyatt, Stetson, McCoy, and McCall.  She also leaves behind two brothers, Gary (Diane) Arnold and Bob Arnold, three sisters-in-law, Pat Arnold, Connie Arnold, and Bonnie Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Don Arnold, Jack Arnold, and Ken Arnold.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 23 at Dokken-Nelson.  Graveside Services will take place at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 24 at Meadowview Cemetery in Manhattan.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com
