Glacier County has been awarded federal funds to help counter the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The county received more than $20,000 in funding to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.
Karla Seaman, executive director for Opportunities Inc. in Great Falls, said, "There is a definite need, I think we can all relate to the different impacts that this COVID-19 has had. It could be from individuals being furloughed, not having much work, and facing some crisis within their household. I think this is highly needed in our area."
Here are the requirements:
1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government.
2) be eligible to receive federal funds.
3) have an accounting system.
4) practice nondiscrimination.
5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.
6) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
"Opportunities Incorporated, we are a private non-profit. And we serve the six-county region here in north-central Montana. We provide a lot of services for individuals in need. Some of those services come in the way of getting revenues from different programs and getting them to the local communities. And that's one thing about a community action agency. It is individualized towards the city and what the community needs are. And so we're just here to to help," explained Seaman.
Requests from organizations within the Blackfeet Reservation must submit with their requests a letter of concurrence from the Blackfeet Tribal Council.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Opportunities, Inc. at 905 1st Avenue North, Great Falls, MT, 59401, email kseaman@gfoppinc.org or by calling 761-0310 for an application. The deadline for applications to be received is 5:00 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2020.
