BOZEMAN — Montana State University students start school in a little less than a week, and while it’s their responsibility to have certain school supplies like pencils and books, the university is making sure each student has access to a Clean Cat Kit.

“What’s in this kit is a bottle of hand sanitizer, a bottle of disinfectant spray, some microfiber wipes, a face mask,” explained Mike Becker, the spokesperson for MSU.

With these clean cat kits, the university hopes to enable students to take control over their own, personal spaces.

“We want to make sure that everybody who comes to our campus as a student, staff and faculty member has some ability to take some personal responsibility for the spaces that they use every day. They can put a little extra effort in to make sure that in addition to all the other cleaning on campus that that space right there, right then is sanitized,” Becker said.

And what happens if students use up their sanitizer or spray?

There are several refilling stations students can find all over campus in case they run out.

Volunteers spent hours putting the kits together, but it’s a little way the university can provide reassurance.

“This is an opportunity that we saw to put some of this peace of mind right into people’s hands, so that they can know what they’re touching is under their control and they can have that extra satisfaction of knowing that it’s clean, their hands are sanitized, and that it’s all ready to go for their school or for their work,” Becker explained.

Classes officially start on Monday, August 17.
