Winter storm impacting SW Montana Wednesday evening

BOZEMAN – Widespread snow will continue across Montana with a NW flow aloft and a cold front passing through the state.

Snow and wind will also continue for wind prone areas: Whitehall, Three Forks, Ennis, Norris Hill and Livingston this evening.

Additional snow accumulations are likely for most of SW Montana with valleys picking up 1″ – 4″ and most mountain passes could see another 3″ – 6″ through midnight.

WEDNESDAY EVENING COMMUTE:

As the current storm continues to produce steady light snow, accumulating snow and localized gusty winds you evening commute will be a slow go. Watch for snow covered and icy roads in town and on area highways and interstates including all mountain passes.

Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service continues a Winter Storm Warning for Gallatin and Meagher counties through 5 am Thursday.

Moderate to heavy snow at times is possible Wednesday afternoon and evening. The Wednesday evening commute will be impacted with snow, lower visibility and localized gusty winds producing areas of blowing snow. This includes I-90 Bozeman pass.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY:

The National Weather Service continues a Winter Weather Advisory through 11 pm tonight for most of SW, central and western Montana.

Areas of light snow with an additional 1″ – 3″ is possible through midnight. Localized gusty winds in wind prone areas could see blowing and drifting with reduced visibility.

All area mountain passes will be very icy tonight and snow covered and most valleys as well. Plan on slow go travel conditions this evening into Thursday morning.

BOZEMAN: LOW: 14°; HIGH THURSDAY: 32°. Steady snowfall likely to continue for Bozeman through midnight but should diminish overnight with clearing skies by early Thursday morning. An additional 1″ – 3″ is possible for Bozeman. Thursday starts off sunny and cold with building clouds and a few hit and miss snow showers with the warming afternoon temperatures Thursday.

BUTTE: LOW: 10°; HIGH THURSDAY: 30°. Light snow showers likely through midnight for Butte with another 1″ – 3″ possible. Snow should diminish after midnight and clearing by Thursday morning. Watch for patchy valley fog Thursday morning and building clouds Thursday afternoon with a few flurries.

DILLON: LOW: 20°; HIGH THURSDAY: 37°. Mostly cloudy with a few snow showers through midnight. Very little to no accumulations likely but nearby mountain passes will see snow with another 1″-5″ possible. Snow ends after midnight. Thursday starts off sunny and cold but look for building clouds a few flurries by afternoon.

WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: 6°; HIGH THURSDAY: 26°. Steady snow is likely through early Thursday morning. An additional 3″ – 6″ of snow is possible tonight. Snow should end by sunrise Thursday but a few flurries could re-develop by Thursday afternoon. Watch for localized gusty winds and blowing snow Wednesday afternoon and evening.
