Snow, wind and bitter cold this weekend

WINTER STORM WARNING:

Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for the Butte/Blackfoot region from 5 pm Friday to 2 pm Saturday.

Snow, blowing and drifting snow and dangerous wind chills will develop as a new Arctic cold front moves through tonight into Saturday.

Snow accumulations: 2″ – 4″

Easterly wind gusts 35 to 50 mph in wind prone areas or gap areas along the continental divide. Similar to last Sunday.

Wind chills at times could be as cold as -40 below zero. Frostbite can occur within 10 minutes.

Impacted areas: Butte, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 Garrison to Elliston, Homestake Pass, MacDonald Pass, Highway 200.

The National Weather Service has a WIND CHILL ADVISORY up through the weekend east of the divide in SW Montana.

Feels like temperatures at times could fall between -15 to -35 below zero especially in the early morning hours when air temperatures are below zero.

The National Weather Service has a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY up for most of Northern Montana tonight into Saturday.

Snow, wind, blowing snow and bitter wind chills will create difficult wintry travel impacts.

City by City Forecast:

BOZEMAN: LOW: -6°; HIGH SATURDAY: 5°. Colder and cloudy. Look for scattered snow tonight into Saturday with off and on snow likely all weekend. Surface winds will shift from the South to the East this weekend around 5 to 15 mph. Wind chill values at times could be bitter dropping down to or colder than -15 below zero. Snow accumulations of 2″-4″ is possible by Monday morning.

BUTTE: LOW: -8°; HIGH SATURDAY: 5°. A Winter Storm WARNING is in effect for Butte through Saturday afternoon. Look for scattered snow and gusty winds tonight into Saturday. Off and on snow is possible all weekend. Snow accumulations are likely and by the end of the weekend there could 2″-4″ or more of new snow. Also gusty winds from the East are likely Saturday 15 to 25 gusts over 35 mph. This could produce considerable blowing and drifting snow and significant reduction to visibility.

DILLON: LOW: -5°; HIGH SATURDAY: 5°. Colder tonight and this weekend for Dillon. Scattered snow is possible this weekend with light accumulations. However, East winds will increase Saturday 5 to 15 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. Wind chills will be very cold at times and possibly colder than -15° below zero. Areas of blowing snow are also possible this weekend.

WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: -5°; HIGH SATURDAY: 20°. Colder tonight and this weekend for West Yellowstone. Snow is likely this weekend into early next week. Off and snow bands could produce moderate to heavy snow at times. East winds will develop Saturday with gusts up to 30 mph. Areas of blowing snow are possible and wind chill values could be bitter between -15 to -35 below zero.
