Cold tonight but a warming trend begins Tuesday

BOZEMAN – As expected a very chilly pattern over Montana today with max temperatures in the 40s and 50s. In fact, there is a very good chance we will set numerous record low max temperatures today.

Tonight skies will clear and that will allow temperatures to fall into the 30s for lower valleys and 20s for higher elevated valleys. If you want to persevere your flows and gardens, I would strongly suggest covering them to avoid possible frost bite.

A building High-pressure will begin to move back into the western half of the country slowly Tuesday. This will help temperatures jump back up to near normal levels tomorrow and slightly above normal levels later this week.

There will be several weak pacific cold fronts moving over the top of the ridge pattern passing through northern Montana off and on this week. This will likely produce gusty winds in the afternoon and evening hours.

The combination of warm, dry, and windy conditions has a “RED FLAG WARNING” up for central, northern, and eastern Montana counties Tuesday through Thursday.

This does include the far eastern half of SW Montana with all of Gallatin county, Broadwater, Meagher, and eastern Jefferson county.

Please be very careful working or recreating outdoors during the afternoon to early evening hours. Human caused fires greatly increase during these red flag warning events.
