Holiday travel update

and last updated

BOZEMAN – Blocking High-pressure will dominate our local weather pattern through the end of the week. This should lock us into a stable atmosphere and improve travel conditions. Valley inversion could strengthen with this ridge pattern producing cold pools for inversion prone valleys but overall temperatures should be near to slightly above normal through Friday.

The next weather maker will be a new pacific storm Saturday. This should bring snow back to the region with light snow for lower valleys and a better chance for accumulating snow for mountains and passes.

The other big weather headlines, if you are traveling, is a powerful storm system moving through the central and eastern half of the country over the next 2 days. Severe thunderstorms are possible across the deep south and lift up into the New England areas Thursday into Friday. Severe winter weather will impact the Great Lakes with blizzard like conditions over the next 2 days. Be ready for long travel delays if you are flying into the central and eastern U.S.
