BOZEMAN – Higher fire danger for several days across SW Montana. A dry cold front will produce stronger surface winds Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.

The combination of gusty west to SW winds 15 to 25 and peak gusts over 30 mph, relative humidity values 10% to 20%, and temperatures in the 80s and 90s will produce higher fire danger conditions.

The National Weather Service has a RED FLAG WARNING up from noon Tuesday through 9 pm Wednesday for SW Montana.

This mostly dry cold front could produce isolated dry thunderstorms as well with lightning and erratic wind gusts in Madison county on Wednesday.

During these Red Flag Warning events, it’s critical that everyone avoids working and recreating outdoors in the late afternoon to early evening hours. The conditions described above are ripe for accidental new human-caused fires to develop during the hottest and driest time of the day.

Please use extra caution with all activities outdoors!
